Animal Tales Series

In the ANIMAL TALES Series I join my love of stories and my love of animals with my personal need to work with repurposed materials - in this series a repurposed book and repurposed sheet glass. A book chooses me at a thrift store or yard sale, I then read the book. The book's tale or title inspires a specific animal. I then create a hand-drawn kiln-processed portrait* (on repurposed sheet glass) of that animal. The portrait is attach to the manipulated book which is further adorned. Each artwork is signed and is a one-of-a-kind. The bottom of the book is felt covered.

Animal Tales - Prey for Survival - from right 9.5”W x 6” H x 6.5” D I repurposed James Patterson’s book The Big Bad Wolf to present this hand-painted image of a grey wolf. The term “lone wolf”, refers to a wolf who is searching for a mate. Everything in a wolf’s nature tells it to belong to something greater than itself: a pack. Just like us, wolves need one another. I may have touched them, but they touched me in my soul in a way I never could have expected. Those enormous mammals approached our boat with curiosity and amazing gentleness. I knew I had to wait to find the right book to present these giants properly. I’ve adopted and adapted the book Redbirds Revisited: Great Memories and Stories from St. Louis Cardinals by David Craft and Tom Owens. As a young kid growing up in St.Louis, I learned to love the sport of baseball while watching the Cardinal games. At 13, I was introduced to Stan “The Man” Musial. Most of Robert’s friends were humans who came to visit from all over the world. Robert’s owner who adopted and named the young quail was quite surprised one day when “Robert”, laid an egg!
